Both the Ranked and Head-to-Head formats require respondents to judge all three of your options. We do not ask respondents to pick only one favorite because we’ve found that having respondents judge all options creates greater opportunity for actionable insights.
In addition, our Ranked polls use what’s called “instant runoff,” a trusted method to find the most preferred result. In order to execute an instant runoff, we need to rank options because in many cases, there is no obvious winner in the first round of voting. Therefore, we need to rely on respondent ranks to calculate the overall winner.
